To have Brigantine, NJ take legislative action on single-use plastic bags.
The City of Brigantine passed a resolution encouraging the use of reusable bags in 2011 thanks to South Jersey Chapter activism. The Chapter wants the town to take the next step and either ban or put a fee on single use bags in Brigantine. The Chapter has collected hundreds of postcards asking the Mayor and Council to take action.
For years the chapter kept working in Brigantine but through eections, fewer and fewer peole on the City Council supported a ban. The Mayor called in the NJ Food Council (an anti bag ban group) which slowed progress even further.
But in 2018, the prospect of state legislation with a fee going to the state has renewed the idea in Brigantine. As a result, the town introduce an ordinance to ban plastic bags on August, 15, 2018.
