Hands Across the Sand and May Cleanup

Written by South Jersey | May 13, 2017 8:28:22 PM

Join us on May 20th for Hands Across the Sand, a silent protest against offshore drilling, and on May 21st for our May beach cleanup at the Huron Avenue Cove in Atlantic City.

Hands Across the Sand: May 20th, 11:00am-12:30pm

WHAT: A crowd will join hands forming a line across the beach at Beesley’s Point in Marmora in a local "Hands Across the Sand” gathering; this is one of hundreds of synchronized events globally to raise awareness about the dangers of dirty fuels and the need to speed the transition to available, affordable clean energy solutions. The events are particularly salient this year with the Trump Administration’s vision to “unleash America’s $50 trillion in untapped shale, oil, and natural gas reserves, plus hundreds of years in [coal] reserves.” This is the opposite of investing in a green energy future and fails to honor international agreements to fight climate change. The impacts of these actions will affect people across the world.

WHO: The South Jersey Chapter of Surfrider Foundation and a number of citizens from Cape May County and the surrounding areas.
WHEN:   Saturday, May 20th. Everyone is invited to help with a short beach cleanup starting at 11 am and the crowd will join hands starting at noon. Come for the cleanup, to join hands or hopefully both!!! (Media Check In at 11:30 am)
WHERE:
9 Harbor Road, Marmora, NJ 08223

May Beach Cleanup: May 21st, 10:00am-1:00pm

WHAT: A cleanup of the Huron Avenue Beach located next to the Golden Nugget, Atlantic City. This beach is very dirty and needs a lot of love.

WHO: The South Jersey Chapter of Surfrider Foundation and volunteers.
WHEN:   Sunday May 21st, 10:00am-1:00pm
WHERE:
632 Huron Avenue, Atlantic City, NJ 08401

Drive as if you are going to the Golden Nugget self-parking, pass self-parking and keep going straight down the little dirt road. Look for Surfrider signs and volunteers!
