Time for Activism on NJ Coastal Development Rules

Our Coastal Zones are at risk for being developed with no regard for climate change, future storms or sea level rise! Please take a few minutes to learn more about the proposed changes to our coastal development rules and then make your comment as instructed below to let our lawmakers know this is not acceptable!

1. Visit: http://www.nj.gov/dep/rules/comments/
2. Choose Docket #03-14-04
3. Add a comment

Sample comments:

A. I am deeply concerned that the proposed coastal development rule changes do not incorporate lessons learned from the devastation to New Jersey coastal communities from Superstorm Sandy, calling for increased development in hazardous coastal areas.

B. The proposed coastal development rule changes do not take into account climate change, future storms, or rises in sea level along the Jersey Shore, which is a recipe for future disasters.

C. A proposed new class of permit, “permit-by-certification” is also cause for concern, as this will allow permit seekers to obtain a permit automatically through a website, without review by NJDEP staff.

D. I believe New Jersey residents should be given more time to understand and comment on these important coastal development rule changes—please extend the comment period and hold more question and answer sessions for the public along the Jersey Shore.
